Dear Loop de Loop participants;

The Loop de Loop committee met this evening and discussed the weather and trail conditions in the Decorah area. It was determined the 5th annual Loop de Loop scheduled for Saturday, September 24 will be postponed to Saturday, October 22 due to conditions beyond our control. Portions of the trail are currently under water and many roads are closed in central Winneshiek County. For our patrons’ safety postponing the race is the best course of action. We hope you can understand the importance of keeping everyone safe and secure.

All three races will attempt to be run on Saturday, October 22 at the same location. If you are unable to attend on October 22 please reply to decorahrotary@gmail.com, your t-shirt and race packet will be mailed to you. The committee will make every effort to have full services on the October 22 date but please know that the courses and services may change.

On behalf of the Decorah Rotary Club, we thank you for your support of the Loop de Loop and the Rotary Club. Please join us in showing support to those impacted by recent flooding and weather throughout the state and in Northeast Iowa. Your generosity makes many local programs possible including scholarships for our young people and for improvements to the very trail we run and walk on. Same day registration is available on Friday, October 21 from 5-7pm and on Saturday morning, October 22 from 6:30 - 7:45am.

The Decorah area has been hit with unusual weather over the past several weeks. There has been less than ideal conditions in many of our community’s parks and trails. The National Weather Service has issued another flash flood watch for the Decorah area and the Upper Iowa River for Wednesday, September 21 beginning at 1:00am. If the weather predicted by this warning actually manifests in the City of Decorah it may become necessary to cancel the Decorah Rotary Loop de Loop event scheduled for Saturday, September 24. We will send notices as soon as conditions become predictable, for now please stay tuned.

Packet pickup is at Decorah City Hall from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday or the morning of the race from 6:30-8:00am. The city hall is located at 400 Claiborne Drive but you will enter the front of the building located on the Heivly Street side of the building.
DATE AND TIME: The Loop de Loop 5K, 10K and half-marathon will be held Saturday, September 24, 2016.
The races will begin at 8:00am with staggered start times for each race.
8:00am – half-marathon
8:15am – 10K
8:30am – 5K
The starting line will be located at the Decorah High School Baseball field on Claiborne Drive. 
Due to the charitable purposes of this event, unfortunately we are unable to provide refunds of registration fees in the event the race is cancelled.
REGISTRATION: Early registration for the 5K and 10K run/walk is $25 and can be completed online (www.decorahrotary.org) or mailed to Loop de Loop PO Box 442 Decorah, IA 52101.  Early registration ends 4:01 PM on Friday, July 1. After that time the 5K and 10K registration fees will be $30 until Thursday, September 1, after which time they will be $35.00.

Youth registration of $15 is for entry into all race events.

Half-marathon registration, which can also be completed online, is $55 for early registration thru July 1, $65 through September 1 and $75 after September 1.
Runners who wish to run as a relay may do so for the half-marathon.  Cost for a team is double the entry fee and may consist of up to four runners.  Each runner will get a dry wick style t-shirt and one timing chip bib number will be issued which will be handed off between runners along the course.  Teams can choose however they wish to split the race up.  One waiver will be submitted per team with the team captain’s signature waiving liability for all team members. Teams will need to indicate the number of T-shirts needed by listing the number next to each size on the registration form.
T-shirts will be mailed for all registrations received after September 1, 2016

Pre-registrations and online registrations will close at midnight, September 20th, 2016.
Same day registrations available during packet pick-up.
TIMING: This race will be timed utilizing AMB I.T. timing system to obtain accurate and quick results.  No other timing chip may be worn.  All Participants will be issued a timing chip bib number for use during the event.
COURSE: The course for the half-marathon and 5K and 10K will start just off Claiborne Drive near the Decorah High School baseball field.  The half marathon will then proceed to the Trout Run Trail which is a closed loop path winding its way through the countryside on the outskirts of Decorah. The 5K and 10K will follow a flat course near the Upper Iowa River.  Both races will finish at the start line. Please see link for maps and elevations.  www.decorahrotary.org.
Courses will close and services will be discontinued after a 15 minute per mile pace for all races.

The Decorah Rotary Club invites everyone to join us in the 5th Annual Loop de Loop Half-Marathon and 5K/10K Run-Walk to be held in Decorah, IA on Saturday, September 24, 2016. The starting location for the 5K, 10K, Half-Marathon, and Half-Marathon Relay will be adjacent to the Decorah Municipal Center on Claiborne Drive. Detailed information on the route, timing, registration details, and other useful items are available via the Online Loop de Loop Registration Form or the Mail-In Loop de Loop Registration Form using the top pink buttons provided above. Please note the following staggered starting times for each event: 8:00 am - Half-Marathon Start 8:15 am - 10K Start 8:30 am - 5K Start Proceeds from this event will be applied to the local, national, and international charitable efforts supported by the Decorah Rotary Club and Rotary International. The run will be held on the renowned Trout Run Trail -- a 12-mile closed-loop recreation trail that completely circumnavigates the picturesque and historic northeast Iowa town of Decorah. The trail goes through and around Decorah and the surrounding Oneota Valley area, passing along the beautiful Trout Run, the Upper Iowa River, along former rail and road beds, and through public lands and private farmland. The trail offers expansive views of wooded valleys, limestone bluffs, and rare algific talus slopes unique to the area's karst topography, in addition to interesting sculptures and other artwork loc
